Project Description

Alberici Constructors, Inc. has been contracted by Arlington County, Virginia to expand and upgrade their current water pollution control plant.  The project will expand the biological  treatment capacity of the plant from 30 MGD to 90 MGD.  American Contracting has been subcontracted to perform the majority of the process mechanical work.

Project highlights include:
  • Complete blower building rehab include 5 each 800 hp Roots Blowers and 160 pieces of large diameter (16”-42”) galvanized steel pipe 
  • Nine secondary clarifiers with EIMCO rotating mechanism , FRP weirs, baffles & launder covers 
  • Eight primary clarifiers with polychem chain & flight sludge collector
  • Two secondary service pump station rehabs
  • Six advanced aeration tanks complete rehabs including Sanitaire diffusers, new galvanized steel pipe air headers, mixers, foam hoods, spray water piping & foam collection piping.
  • 180 sluice and slide gates in new advanced aeration tanks
  • 4,540 lf of aluminum handrail
  • 15,566 sf of aluminum grating
  • New ferric chloride system & polymer system including pumps, tanks & piping
  • Aeration tank pipe gallery rehab including over 7,500 pieces of DIP & GSP pipe (3”-36” diameter)
  • Mixed liquor distribution structure with air header, drops & diffusers, spray water piping and sluice gate.
  • Foam collection pump station new mechanical work. 
  • Rehab of existing secondary clarifier channels including gates & piping.
